Overview
Are you a strong negotiator with a background in Mine Planning or Mining Engineering?
We’re seeking a Mine Contracts Manager to join an established gold mining operation in West Africa. This is a pivotal role, reporting directly to the Mining Manager, and will suit someone who understands large-scale mining operations and has the ability to engage at all levels while driving performance and value from contractor partnerships.
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop and manage contract cost models to optimize operational performance.
- Lead contract negotiations with mining contractors and suppliers.
- Proactively identify and manage contract risks to ensure compliance and efficiency.
- Align contractor deliverables with mine plans and production targets.
- Build strong relationships with contractors and internal teams to ensure operational excellence.
About You:
- Background in Mine Planning or Mining Engineering – essential for understanding technical and operational drivers.
- Experience working in contractor-operated, large-scale mining operations (ideally 100+ Mtpa).
- Strong commercial acumen and ability to push back and negotiate effectively with contractors.
- Attention to detail with a track record of delivering results in a high-pressure environment.
- Excellent communication skills, with the ability to engage confidently at all levels of the business.

- Ensure Compliance with Health and Safety Standards:Â Ensure effective compliance with occupational health and safety and environmental management systems, policies, procedures, and legal requirements in all areas of responsibility.
- Management and Development of Electrical Systems:Â Manage the design, construction, and maintenance of electrical equipment and networks, ensuring optimization and best practice standards are met.
- Personnel and Process Supervision:Â Supervise processes and personnel to maintain and optimize the use of medium voltage (MV) and high tension (HT) equipment.
- Support and Technical Oversight:Â Provide technical support to engineering personnel and develop equipment maintenance plans according to original equipment manufacturer (OEM) and legal requirements.
- Budget and Maintenance Strategy Implementation:Â Develop operating and capital budget requirements and implement maintenance management operational systems and strategies for critical infrastructure.
Key Skills
- Leadership and Safety Management:Â Strong leadership skills with a focus on safety, capable of leading under pressure and managing critical tasks.
- Technical Expertise in Electrical Engineering:Â Sound knowledge of MV/HT reticulation, overhead line construction, and system reliability optimization.
- Contract and Project Management:Â Experienced in contract administration and project management, with a focus on electrical infrastructure projects.
- Problem Solving and Troubleshooting:Â Strong troubleshooting abilities, with a capability to address and solve complex technical issues.
- Communication and Relationship Management:Â Excellent communication skills necessary for maintaining strong relationships with service providers and internal teams, including the ability to negotiate and plan effectively.
Qualifications/Certifications
- Degree in Electrical Engineering and or Equivalent
- Professional Engineer Registration will be an advantage,
- 8+ years’ experience within a Superintendent/Specialist Role
- 8+ years' construction experience working on Transmission and Substation projects
- Excellent organizational, administrative, communication, and interpersonal skills
