We are supporting a progressive mining company with the appointment of a Project Controls Manager for a major mining project in West Africa.

This is a key project leadership role for an experienced project controls professional who can establish and maintain the systems, processes, and disciplines required to successfully deliver a complex mining project.

The successful candidate will work closely with the Project Director and wider project team, providing clear visibility across cost, schedule, progress, risk, and forecasting to support effective decision-making and ensure the project remains on track.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the project controls function across cost control, planning, scheduling, forecasting, progress measurement, and reporting.
  • Develop, maintain, and continuously improve the integrated project master schedule.
  • Establish robust cost control processes covering budgets, commitments, actual expenditure, accruals, forecasts, and estimate at completion.
  • Monitor project performance against approved baseline cost and schedule and identify emerging trends, risks, and potential delays.
  • Produce accurate weekly and monthly project reports, dashboards, forecasts, and management information.
  • Develop and monitor project KPIs, providing early visibility of potential cost or schedule deviations.
  • Coordinate closely with engineering, procurement, construction, contracts, finance, and operational readiness teams.
  • Support change management processes and assess the cost and schedule impact of scope changes.
  • Lead schedule risk analysis, critical path reviews, scenario planning, and recovery planning where required.
  • Monitor contractor and EPC/EPCM performance against agreed schedules, budgets, milestones, and deliverables.
  • Support project risk management, ensuring key risks and opportunities are quantified and incorporated into forecasts.
  • Provide the Project Director and senior leadership with accurate information to support timely, evidence-based decisions.
  • Develop project controls capability within the team and ensure consistent application of project controls standards and procedures.

Candidate Profile

  • Strong experience in project controls within mining, minerals processing, infrastructure, or other major capital projects.
  • Proven experience supporting large-scale mining projects through engineering, construction, commissioning, and ideally operational readiness.
  • Strong understanding of project scheduling, cost control, forecasting, earned value, change management, and risk management.
  • Experience managing integrated schedules involving engineering, procurement, construction, commissioning, and contractor activities.
  • Strong working knowledge of project controls systems and software such as Primavera P6 and associated cost/reporting tools.
  • Commercially astute with the ability to identify emerging risks before they materially impact project delivery.
  • Strong analytical capability with the ability to turn complex project data into clear management information.
  • Confident working with Project Directors, senior management, EPC/EPCM contractors, consultants, and multidisciplinary project teams.
  • Previous experience working on mining projects in Africa or other remote/international jurisdictions would be highly advantageous.

Ideal Background

The successful candidate may come from an owner’s project team, EPCM organisation, engineering consultancy, or major mining contractor, with a strong track record of controlling complex capital projects.

Experience taking mining projects through development, construction, commissioning, and ramp-up would be particularly relevant.

Why This Role

This is an opportunity to play a key role in the delivery of a significant mining project in West Africa.

You will work closely with senior project leadership and have direct influence over how the project manages cost, schedule, risk, and overall delivery performance.

For a Project Controls Manager who understands mining projects and enjoys bringing structure, visibility, and accountability to complex project environments, this represents an excellent opportunity to make a tangible impact.

Qualifications/Certifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Construction Management, Quantity Surveying, Project Management, or related discipline.
  • Significant project controls experience within mining, minerals processing, or major capital projects.
  • Strong Primavera P6 planning and scheduling capability.
