Overview

We are supporting a mining client in West Africa with the appointment of an experienced Project Study Director to lead a critical study phase that will significantly contribute to the client’s Definitive Feasibility Study (DFS).

This is a high-impact, autonomous role suited to a senior project professional who can take ownership of the study process, engage effectively with technical stakeholders, and provide the leadership required to move the project towards a robust feasibility outcome.

The initial contract will run for 6–9 months, with a strong likelihood of extension depending on project progress and feasibility results.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and coordinate project study activities contributing directly to the DFS.
  • Work autonomously while engaging with internal teams, external consultants, EPCM partners, and technical specialists.
  • Drive study schedules, deliverables, risks, assumptions, and reporting requirements.
  • Ensure technical inputs are aligned, commercially sound, and suitable for executive and board-level decision-making.
  • Provide clear leadership across engineering, mining, processing, infrastructure, permitting, cost estimation, and project controls workstreams.
  • Identify key project risks, gaps, opportunities, and value-improvement areas.
  • Support the client in moving the project from study phase towards a feasible development pathway.

Candidate Profile

  • Strong experience leading mining studies, ideally at PFS, DFS, or execution-readiness stage.
  • Previous experience working on mining projects in Africa, preferably West Africa.
  • Strong understanding of project development, feasibility studies, capital cost estimation, technical trade-offs, and execution planning.
  • Ability to operate independently with limited supervision.
  • Strong stakeholder management skills across corporate, site, consultant, and contractor environments.
  • Bilingual in English and French.
  • Comfortable working in complex jurisdictions and emerging mining environments.
  • Strong reporting, communication, and decision-support capability.

Ideal Background

The successful candidate will likely have held roles such as:

  • Project Study Director
  • Study Manager
  • Project Director
  • Technical Services / Project Development Lead
  • Engineering Manager
  • Feasibility Study Lead

Why This Role

This is an opportunity to play a central role in shaping the development path of a major mining project in West Africa. The role requires judgement, technical maturity, autonomy, and the ability to bring structure to a critical study phase.

For a senior project professional who understands how to turn technical workstreams into bankable project decisions, this is a strong opportunity to make a meaningful impact.
